Our year-long program includes a 3-week Summer Session in which teachers work with each other, lead teachers and SEP staff to gain skills and expertise in molecular biology and genetics.

SEP participants have access to our Kit Loan Program. These kits offer teachers the opportunity to share hands-on laboratory experiences with students in their classrooms.

Fostering Partnerships

SEP is a professional development program for secondary school science teachers in Washington State sponsored by Fred Hutch. It was designed and developed alongside teachers, and has built a strong and supportive network of hundreds of committed science educators.

Summer Session

Gain Skills & Expertise

Learn cutting-edge science by working alongside a research scientist mentor in Fred Hutch labs or in labs of partner organizations. Bring new ideas, skills, and resources back to your classroom. Participants have access to equipment and supplies through our kit loan program.

Application Information

How to Apply

SEP invites 25 educators to participate in the program each year. The program is open to middle and high school teachers from public, private or home schools. If you interested in learning about the application process visit our Application Information page.

Pathways: Cancer Research

Fred Hutch recently received funding for new education and training programs for teachers, high school students, and undergraduates. This builds on our long-standing efforts and institutional commitment to support the development of the diverse next generation of biomedical scientists.
